An online dating service provider that offers services to residents of this state shall clearly and conspicuously provide a safety awareness notification on the provider's Internet website that includes a list and description of safety measures reasonably designed to increase awareness of safer online dating practices.
On January 14, 2008, New Jersey passed the first United States online dating legislation called the Internet Dating Safety Act (Senate Bill-1977/A4304). Several other states have tried to pass different variations of this Act but New Jersey is the first state to succeed.
